An Upscale T-style with G&L’s Most Popular Options
If you want to rock with authority, the G&L Fullerton Deluxe ASAT Special is the right tool for the job. This single-cutaway bolt-on electric guitar comes loaded with a bevy of G&L’s most popular options to provide you with an upscale playing experience. It all starts with a body built from sweet-sounding swamp ash — a tonewood that’s chock-full of warmth, brightness, and mix-piercing mids. A Modern Classic-shaped hard-rock maple neck and smooth 9.5-inch-radius Caribbean rosewood fingerboard supply super-comfortable playability, while a duo of soapbar-style single-coil Magnetic Field Design pickups yield a high-octane snarl with screaming harmonics. To top it off, a Leo Fender-designed G&L Saddle-Lock bridge ensures maximum comfort and singing sustain, while sealed tuners maintain rock-solid tuning stability. A natural bone nut and eye-grabbing tortoise shell pickguard complete the picture. The Fullerton Deluxe ASAT Special was made in Fullerton, California.

Swamp ash body yields a balanced musical tone
The Fullerton Deluxe ASAT Special features a solid swamp ash body — a tonewood prized for its musical blend of warmth, brightness, and mix-penetrating midrange. This electric guitar’s hard-rock maple neck boasts a Modern Classic profile, which includes a 1-11/16” nut width and 1-5/8” string spacing to enable a generous edge roll for maximum comfort without string fall-off. This ultra-comfortable neck is capped by an easy-playing 9.5”-radius Caribbean rosewood fingerboard that’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face. The guitarists here at Sweetwater appreciate the effortless playability of the Fullerton Deluxe ASAT Special.
Soapbar-style pickups serve up a myriad of snarling tones
If standard Magnetic Field Design single-coils are too tame for you, you’ll really dig the G&L Fullerton Deluxe ASAT Special’s soapbar-style pickups. These jumbo-sized pups yield more output than G&L’s regular MFD single-coils, along with an in-your-face snarl that will lend authority to every note you play. These pickups exhibit more midrange than vintage Kalamazoo-built soapbar models, while maintaining that legendary design’s coveted harmonic complexity. The Fullerton Deluxe ASAT Special’s neck pickup produces a gorgeous bluesy crunch, while its bridge pickup delivers maximum spank and clarity — a must for leads that cut through a busy mix. The Fullerton Deluxe ASAT Special’s jumbo single-coil Magnetic Field Design pickups are punchy and well-focused, with truckloads of fat warmth and the perfect amount of top-end sparkle.
Leo's favorite creations
After founding two hugely successful guitar brands and consulting on the side, Leo Fender felt that he had unfinished business in the guitar world. Together with partner George Fullerton, G&L opened for business in 1979 and incorporated innovative design elements into their instruments, such as the Magnetic Field Design pickups, Dual-Fulcrum Vibrato, Saddle-Lock Bridge, and Bi-cut neck design. Leo was so proud of his new instruments that he famously declared that G&L's "are the best instruments I have ever made." Play a G&L today and experience the magic for yourself.

Not What I Expected but Useful
Absolutely outstanding. Buy it.
Fullerton Deluxe ASAT Special
My ASAT is 2 ounces short of 8 pounds. The fit and finish is absolutely flawless. The fretwork is exceptional, and the neck feels great. The finish on the back of the neck is thin and not grabby on my hand. The 3 tone burst is well done. To my eye nothing is worse than a poorly done burst, and this one is great. I had read about the sustain of G&Ls with the locking saddles that Leo came up with after founding G&L, but this is the first time I've had a guitar in my hands than has one. It really works. Playing triads on the first three strings for example, and hitting the open 4th string by mistake it just goes and goes reminding me to work a bit on my accuracy. I say that not because it's a problem but because it was my poor technique that brought me to realize how well the guitar sustains. It's very impressive.
I owned an American Standard Tele that I gave it to my son about 3 months ago. Comparing this G&L to that guitar the Jumbo MFD pickups are absolute Tele killers. They just sound so great. The tone and volume pots can get me anywhere I want to go with my amps settings just put to 12:00 o'clock and forgotten. I've never had a guitar where the controls have such authority. The tone... OMG the tone goes for miles. I'm not a wine lover, but it would take one to put into words what these pickups are doing. The same way wine lovers can taste blooming fruit trees for example from the next valley over in the wine and so forth these pickups seem to be tuned into nuances that others are not. I watched a review of an ASAT Special online and the person called his guitar an "Enchanted Telecaster." Well I'll concede to his description because he nails it.
Lastly, the ASAT with the belly cutout on the body of the old T shape guitar is suddenly comfortable to play. It seems like a little thing, but I was never comfortable with my Tele like when holding this ASAT. G&L does offer the ASAT Special with belly cut and the top rounded off too like an S type. I could see this being the only possible improvement.
I guess I don't understand why every guitar player doesn't have one of these. I'd say that this Fullerton Deluxe ASAT Special represents the best value I've experienced to date in a guitar purchase. It's almost like the price was mis-marked. I don't know how G&L can build at this quality level and at these prices, but my hat is off to them.
Lastly my experience buying from Sweetwater was very good. My Sales Rep Dustin was a pleasure to work with.
