Joe Rogan’s Supplements

Below, we’ll go over each of the supplements Joe Rogan takes and explain why he uses them and their potential benefits.

Pure Encapsulations Athletic Pure Pack

For a daily multivitamin/mineral supplement, Joe Rogan takes Athletic Pure Pack from Pure Encapsulations.

He said on the JRE Pocast #802 with Tom Papa that he takes this mainly for convenience and because the vitamins and minerals in it are more bioavailable. (Which, after looking at the label, we can say is true, which is good to see).

Athletic Pure Pack contains many different essential vitamins and minerals, as well as antioxidants, amino acids, fatty acids, and other nutrients, so it’s a very diverse formula. This is essentially the “base” of Rogan’s supplement routine to provide him with nutrients that he may not always get from his diet.

Pure Encapsulations Macular Support Formula

One the JRE podcast #1879, Rogan also said that he takes Macular Support Formula from Pure Encapsulations.

“I started taking something called Macular support. My vision’s not great, but it never got worse. I’ve been taking it regularly for years and it makes a difference.”

This formula has a bunch of different antioxidants including lutein, zeaxanthin, glutathione, and anthocyanins, which may all help to diminish oxidative stress in the eyes and promote healthier eyes overall. Lutein and zeaxanthin, in particular, are known for their roles in eye health.

Athletic Greens

Joe also takes Athletic Greens, typically in the morning. This formula is a superfood powder with a variety of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, probiotics, herbs, digestive enzymes, and other nutrients.

This wide array of nutrients offers potential benefits for gut health, immunity, stress support, cognitive function, energy levels, and other areas. So, it’s really another one of Rogan’s foundational supplements for all-around wellness.

Onnit Alpha Brain

One of the most well-known supplements Joe Rogan takes is Alpha Brain, which is made by Onnit (a company he co-owns).

Rogan specifically likes Alpha Brain Black Label the most, although he has used the regular version too with good results. He’s said before that,

“Anytime I have to use my memory, anytime cognitive function is important… I use Alpha Brain constantly. When I do the UFC…I always take Alpha Brain.”

When taking a look at Alpha Brain Black Label, we see it has a variety of potential brain boosters.

For example,

  • Cognizin citicoline and huperzia serrata may boost acetylcholine, which can improve memory and focus.
  • Mucuna pruriens extract may increase dopamine levels for more motivation and increased alertness.
  • The combination of caffeine and theanine can also enhance attention and other important cognitive function.
  • Not to mention the general antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that lion’s mane, lutein, and zeaxanthin may have in the brain.

And interestingly enough, clinical research has been done on the exact Alpha Brain formulation too, showing that it can improve verbal memory and improve reaction times, among other things.

Onnit Shroom Tech Sport

Another Onnit supplement that Joe Rogan takes is Onnit Shroom Tech Sport. He’s stated this several times including in a conversation with Bryan Callen.

Rogan takes this mainly as a pre-workout to support greater energy levels and endurance.

Shroom Tech Sport contains vitamin B12, chromium, cordyceps mushroom, and various adaptogens, such as Ashwagandha and Rhodiola rosea.

Vitamin B12 and chromium both assist in energy metabolism and may help you get more nutrition from the food you consume.

Cordyceps mushroom is the main ingredient in Shroom Tech Sport. It can increase blood flow and oxygen uptake, which promotes greater endurance and less fatigue.

And the mix of adaptogens such as Rhodiola and Ashwagandha have been shown to decrease stress, reduce fatigue, and improve various areas of athletic performance.

Four Sigmatic Coffee

Rogan is a coffee drinker, but he also has stated that he uses various Four Sigmatic mushroom coffee products often, especially the Lion’s Mane and Chaga mix.

These different mushroom coffees contain various medicinal mushrooms which are designed to provide a natural boost in energy as well as improved cognitive function, immunity, and gut health.

Overall, the evidence on medicinal mushrooms is still pretty limited with regard to energy, but they are known to offer different health benefits.

Vitamin D

In episode #1474 on the JRE podcast with Dr. Rhonda Patrick, Rogan says he takes 5,000 IU of vitamin D daily. It appears he takes Solgar Vitamin D3, although we aren’t 100% sure of this since it was a while ago when he talked about this brand.

In the same episode, Rogan talked with Dr. Patrick mainly about how so many people are deficient in vitamin D3, due in large part to not getting any sunlight (and also other issues with vitamin D absorption).

So, Rogan essentially takes vitamin D3 daily to prevent a deficiency and to support overall health, which makes sense considering vitamin D3’s roles in immunity, heart health, and several other areas.

However, you can also take too much vitamin D, which notably increases the risk for hypercalcemia and other side effects. That’s why getting bloodwork done is recommended.

Onnit Creatine Monohydrate

Rogan also takes creatine monohydrate to support muscle, strength, and athletic performance.

He uses Onnit’s Creatine Monohydrate, which has 5g per serving.

Creatine is one of the oldest and most well-researched health supplements, with benefits not only for strength and muscle, but also brain function and cognitive health.

Onnit Active B Complete

From the JRE Library, we also discovered that Joe Rogan takes B-complex vitamins in the form of Onnit Active B Complete. He particularly places a high importance on vitamin B12, but believes all B-complex vitamins have possible benefits.

Onnit Active B Complete contains all 8 B-complex vitamins in fully bioavailable forms, which exert greater effects and benefits.

Some of the benefits of B vitamins are improved brain function, better mood, and greater energy. Although they don’t provide much of a benefit unless you’re deficient.

Carlson The Very Finest Fish Oil

Another very important supplement for Joe is essential omega fatty acids, which he takes for brain function and simply overall health.

He gets these mainly from Carlson’s The Very Finest Fish Oil (liquid form), which we’ve actually regarded as one of the best fish oil supplements out there due to quality, dosage, and brand reputation.

In episode #1178 on the JRE with Dr. Patrick, Rogan stated he takes three tbsp per day.

Rogan also believes that fish oil is better absorbed and uses omega 3s compared to flax oil or other vegan sources.

365 Glucosamine & Chondroitin Extra Strength

In JRE #1437, Rogan mentioned that he still takes glucosamine and chondroitin, which he’s actually been taking for over a decade to support joint health. Specifically, he takes Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and MSM Extra Strength by 365 Everyday Value.

Glucosamine and chondroitin are both naturally occurring compounds that are involved in joint health and cartilage formation.

There is evidence that supplementation may decrease joint pain and improve joint flexibility and mobility, which is likely why Rogan supplements with it given his active lifestyle (and that he’s moving closer and closer to older age).

Resveratrol & NMN

Two supplements that Rogan recently started using are resveratrol and NMN, which are both typically classified as “anti-aging” compounds.

Joe initially learned about these compounds on a podcast episode with renowned anti-aging expert Dr. David Sinclair. In a later episode (#1269), Rogan confirmed that he takes resveratrol and NMN every morning, which he says boosts his energy and simply makes him feel better all-around.

Resveratrol is an antioxidant compound found in various plant foods. It decreases inflammation and oxidative stress in virtually all tissues of the body, which can lead to improved heart health, brain function, metabolism, and other areas.

NMN is a nucleotide compound that acts as a precursor to NAD; and NAD is a key molecule involved in hundreds of reactions in the body, including related to cellular function, metabolism, energy production, DNA function, and even in how certain genes work. Emerging evidence shows that NMN may help with a variety of age-related conditions such as brain fog, lack of endurance, slow metabolism, and other areas. But the research is still very limited in humans.

IV Drips

While this isn’t a supplement, it’s also worth mentioning that Rogan got regular IV drips consisting of vitamin C, zinc, and glutathione. This was mainly to give him more energy, improve immune function, and increase his body’s antioxidant capacities.

With that said, it should be noted that the evidence for IV drips for non-medical reasons isn’t very large; and it may even have potential risks in some cases.

Other “Supplements”: Hormones and Peptides

Rogan is also known for taking other substances to improve his hormonal profiles. This has become more important for him as he’s gotten older, yet still wants to maintain youthful energy, mental function, and so forth.

Specifically, Joe Rogan has been on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), which he started all the way back at the age of 40. This can have benefits for individuals with low T, but there are also possible risks, such as liver toxicity and prostate issues.

Beyond that, he takes peptides designed to stimulate growth hormones and other important hormones.

The peptides he uses are BPC 157, ipomoraline, and thymosin. He says, “They help your body produce the hormones that it should have when you’re younger and your body works better.”

Of course, he’s under the supervision of a doctor when taking these. And even still, there are always possible risks.

Final Thoughts: Joe Rogan Supplements

Joe Rogan takes a wide array of health supplements and other compounds to help keep him fit, mentally sharp, energetic, and healthy. Most of the supplements he takes are well-researched and proven effective, although there definitely are a few that either have limited research and/or have potential risks and safety concerns.

This isn’t too surprising since Rogan seems pretty quick to experiment with new things and is interested in seeing what works best for him.

At the end of the day, it appears his regimen does provide him with a number of benefits and will likely continue to support his busy, multi-career lifestyle.
